Friedman takes the reader through the ten major forces that he refers to as "flatteners". Each of these forces has been painstakingly explained leading the reader to concur that the world is indeed getting flat.

A major section is devoted to warn "sleepers" that either they accept the reality of outsourcing or go bust. Through the use of exhaustive stats, Friedman, being an American, warns the country on the danger they face unless they "adapt to change". On numerous occasions the author states that he would have some work done by 5 workers in India/China than 1 expensive worker in the US. However thorough the stats, Friedman misses out on the major issue of quality. Nowwhere does he take into account that 1 quality worker CAN do a better job than 5 medicore workers. This is a situation that has risen on various occasions and the "employability" of graduates in India and China has been discussed in depth by reputed publications such as the McKinsey Quarterly.

Despite this issue not being addressed, the book is one of the best non-fiction reads I have ever come across. An excellent wake-up call for all people who believe in the false sense of job security.
